Experimental and Non-Experimental Design

Instructors: Jacob Benus (IMPAQ International, LLC)

Time: 12/8/2015 – 12/11/2015

Description: The course on experimental and non-experimental evaluation design puts emphasis on causal inference and various types of validity. It consists of systematically studying the theoretical foundations of and principles for designing experimental and, to a lesser extent, non-experimental investigations for applied research and evaluation.

Primary focus of the course include design of non-experimental studies that either lack a comparison group or pretest observation and studies that use both control groups and pretests, including regression discontinuity designs, as well as randomized experimental designs and the conditions conducive to doing such studies and more practical matters such as ethical considerations, attrition and random assignment.
